Its a fact folks. many jews in the usa do indeed hate christmas. they hate
christmas...because it reminds them that they are a small minority in this
country, and that really bothers them. all the other kids had christmas
trees. all the other kids sang christmas carols. while we jews had silly
hanukah menorahs and sang lousy, barelly musical hanuhhak "songs". many
jews hate being wished "merry christmas" in stores and at work, and they
hate the yearly "christmas parties".
this is a fact. Im jewish, so I should know. But the important thing
is....its not the christian's fault that christmas makes us feel
uncomfortable. we are a small minority in this country, and we should
accept that and all that it implies. just as christians and hindus and
buddhists are a minority in israel and must adapt to being a minority in a
jewish country, so must the jews of the usa finally accept their minoroty
status and not try to deal with their insecurity by ruining the party for
the other 90% of the nation.
many jews do indeed prefer stores say "happy holidays" as opposed to "merry
christmas". they dont want to see nativity scenes. they dont want
christmas parties and celebrations at their childrens schools. some of
them indeed want religion taken completaly out of the public square and kept
locked behind closed doors. but all this anti-christmas anxst will only
backfire. christians dont like being told what they can and cant celebrate,
especially by a small minority of people. if we continue to try to deprive
90% of the usa from their culture and traditions, it will eventually
backfire, and christians will see their jewish neighbors of trying to impose
their will on the country unfarelly.
what we need to do, as jews, is be proud of our religion, our traditions,
and our culture. we should celebrate our holidays and make sure our
children our tought to be proud of their culture and not feel ashamed. send
the kids to hebrew school and make sure they have jewish friends, so that
during christmas and easter they have other jewish kids to turn to so they
dont feel like the odd man out. but demanding that 90% of america stops
fully celebrating their holiday so that 3% of america doesnt feel left out,
will win us no allies and ostrosize jews further.
