IF THE USA FAILS IN IRAQ

if we start pulling out right now, two things could happen:

-according to the leftists, all will be happy in Iraq. the insurgents will
put down their guns, and there will be peace and tranquility in ancient
mesopotamia. after all, the only reason the insurgents are fighting, says
the leftists...is due to the american occupation.

-according to the west, all will not be well in Iraq. Islamic extremists
will seek to control parts of the country, there will be battles between
shiites and sunnis, the kurds will declare an independant state in northern
iraq (and the turks will invade iraq to destroy the kurds), the shiite south
will join with iran, and the sunni middle will just wallow in misery.

personally, I think the leftist fantasy of peace and tranquility after an
american withdrawal, are just as nieve and rediculous as the neo-cons saying
we will be greated as liberators with flowers and candy.
My only question is: is our presence in Iraq preventing eventual civil war
and breakdown..or just putting it off to a later date?

as everyone told us (russia, france, saudi arabia....) our going in would
de-stabilize the region. of course we know it all and will not listen to
those with better knowledge. we had our (or is that israel's?) agenda to
follow. no, the "leftists" don't think all will be well. but at least
american troops won't be being killed in an ill thought out invasion. if you
are concerned about what ever is left of iraq becomes a haven for
terrorists, maybe we would have to shoulder the blame for that. it wasn't a
haven prior to our arrival.

What do you mean "if" the usa fails in iraq ?

The only way to win was to stay out.

Oh, we'll win all right. It's a simple process:

[1] Get into a mess.

[2] Lower bar for the definition of "victory".

[3] Repeat [2] until we achieve "victory".

[4] Go home and reelect.

I would wish for more consistency, though. :-/
(And fewer American deaths.)

Followups.

According the leftist the place will descend into chaos which is what
they want as it give them another stick to attack the West.

I still think the best solution in Iraq is split it into three separate
states - a Shiite, Sunni and a Kurdish.
