if we start pulling out right now, two things could happen:
-according to the leftists, all will be happy in Iraq. the insurgents will
put down their guns, and there will be peace and tranquility in ancient
mesopotamia. after all, the only reason the insurgents are fighting, says
the leftists...is due to the american occupation.
-according to the west, all will not be well in Iraq. Islamic extremists
will seek to control parts of the country, there will be battles between
shiites and sunnis, the kurds will declare an independant state in northern
iraq (and the turks will invade iraq to destroy the kurds), the shiite south
will join with iran, and the sunni middle will just wallow in misery.
personally, I think the leftist fantasy of peace and tranquility after an
american withdrawal, are just as nieve and rediculous as the neo-cons saying
we will be greated as liberators with flowers and candy.
My only question is: is our presence in Iraq preventing eventual civil war
and breakdown..or just putting it off to a later date?
