now that the ussr is dead and the threat of global nuclear holocaust is
over, its time for the usa to undo a poor but honest mistake. during the
60s, 70s, and 80's, the usa supported right wing religous fundamentalists in
arab and muslem countries, as a counterweight to communist and other leftist
groups. we did this because we didnt want the arabs and muslems to join the
ussr. it was a good aim, since the soviet union was an evil place, but now
we have to deal with the fruits of proping up islamic radicals. the only
reason the taliban ruled afghanistan and al qaeda had a nation to flourish
(and orchistrate 9-11), is because the cia supported osama and the other
mujahadeen against the soviets. we chose what at the time, was the lesser
of two evils. but now we are facing the lesser evil, which has become the
greater evil.

before its too late, the usa needs to offer massive support to democratic,
leftist and even communist groups in arab and muslem countries. communism
does suck, but they dont threaten jihad and send suicide bombers. we need
to prop up these groups before its too late, for one day islamic radicals
will take over either by force, or by the first and last democratic
elections many of these nations have.

is there anyone who really prefers islamic radicals over leftists and
communists? its time to decide.

Well, USA supported the Arab socialist party "Baath" in Iraq in the
1980s, and you know what happened!-)

It seems that the main enemy for the Americans are the Chinese, and
North Korea and the extremist Muslims are on the second place. Most of
these enemies are leftists. The most dangerous might be the Koreans and
Chinese. As usual, divide and conquer is the best advice, and the
Americans will be very happy to see a war between China, N. Korea and a
couple of Muslim countries.

Second, just look what happened when the wrong guys won elections in
many countries like Algeria, Brasil, Chile etc. etc. Suddenly they were
replaced by a junta, and things became much better for France/USA/local
people. I think many countries even did several rounds of
junta/democracy, and your statement about the first and last democratic
elections might be wrong. You can think of "democracy by trial and
error". I think that the Western democracies arrived to their current
state of affairs in the same way, doing something wrong, seeing what
happened and improving the system.
